A Comparison of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Characteristics According to Victim Gender in Male Homicide Offender with Schizophrenia

Abstract

|
Objective: This study aims to identify personality characteristics according to victim`s gender in male homicide offender with schizophrenia by using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) test.
Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed the mental appraisals and MMPI-2 scores of 32 male homicide offender with schizophrenia who killed men and 44 male homicide offender with schizophrenia who killed women, who were referred to National Forensic Hospital in Gongju city for psychiatric evaluation between January 2010 and August 2018.
Results: The male homicide offender with schizophrenia who killed men scored significantly higher on F (p=0.040) and Pa (p=0.028) than the male homicide offender with schizophrenia who killed women. But, there was no statistically significant difference both the Mf (p=0.301) and Sc (p=0.502) in between the two groups.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that the male homicide offender with schizophrenia who killed men may have developed not masculinity and schizophrenic characteristics but paranoid characteristics, compared to the male homicide offender with schizophrenia who killed women.
